SGV Cancer Support Christmas Party

Last week, Jacksons Lane delivered a fun-filled Christmas party for SGV Cancer Support in Tottenham’s Bigbury Close. A former Macmillan nurse and a group volunteers whose lives had been affected by cancer, started the organization back in 2003 in response to a lack of more local support services for patients.

Entertainment for the festive celebration was arranged by Stuart Cox, head of participation at Jacksons Lane, and included an exciting list of performers for patients and their loved ones to enjoy.

The afternoon kicked off with accomplished theatre performer and Social Lunch favourite, Nigel Roche, singing carols to break the ice and get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Guests were then treated to a surprise group of Christmas carolers when four cast members from the west-end hit musical The Bodyguard turned up to serenade them, including Carol Stennett, who is the alternate to Beverley Knight!

The room was particularly tense when professional circus artist Kaveh Rahnama took to the floor. After asking for some music, he devised a complicated juggling routine on the spot, comfortably catching up to five balls at a time. However it was the big finale that won him a standing ovation- after he balanced one of Bigbury Close’s own armchairs on the tip of his chin!

A three-course lunch prepared by Blooming Scent Café was also served, with the accommodating SGV volunteers on hand to serve refreshments and ensure their guests had a good time. As everyone tucked into dessert, singer-guitarist Walton McLaren had heads nodding and toes tapping along to his acoustic reggae-twist on Boney M’s ‘Rivers of Babylon’.

The celebrations at Bigbury Close ended with a raffle draw with many fantastic prizes being awarded to lucky winners by SGV Cancer Support’s chair, Cathy Mir.
