Social Lunches & Broadway Brunches

In 2012, Jacksons Lane launched a Social Lunch which brought local older residents together over a two-course meal, and a selection of live entertainment from professional performers within the arts. It continues to be incredibly popular in 2017, regularly reaching full capacity with both new and familiar faces.

Last month guests were treated to fantastic performances by members of Bolder Voices, actor Chris Molloy, original ‘Cats' musical cast member Nicola Kimber and pianist Dmitri, former singer from The Lion King musical Nigel Roche and Theatre Re's artistic director, Guillaume Pigé.

With many guests often joining in on impromptu all singing all dancing chorus lines and even preparing acts of entertainment themselves, the lively monthly gathering in Jacksons Lane's space 3 remains a place for developing friendships, and increasing confidence and well-being amongst Haringey's more senior members.

Due to the popularity of the Social Lunch, Broadway Brunch was founded in partnership with Homes for Haringey where the successful event is taken around the borough to a different supported housing scheme each month.

When BOP Consultants carried out an independent consultation last year on the social impact of all of the work, they gathered lots of positive feedback from guests who spoke in depth about their experience at Social Lunch and Broadway Brunch:

"It has increased my confidence. Because I come here and I'm able to share my little talent in front of others and seeing I can make people smile."

"It's something I look forward to, it's one of the days in the month in which I don't get to worry about my health, my family, money..."

In the past, participants have been treated to performances from an exciting assortment of West-End and television stars including Carolyn Pickles (Broadchurch, Coronation Street), Giles Taylor (This House, The Musketeers) and even the cast of The Bodyguard UK musical.

Supported by The Highgate Society, Social Lunch takes place on the last Thursday of every month (except April and December) from 11.45am-2pm at Jacksons Lane, Highgate and costs £5. Food is provided by Café Theadro.

Broadway Brunch takes place monthly on Tuesdays at various supported housing venues and is open to residents of the Homes for Haringey scheme. Food is provided by Blooming Scents Café.
